Summer Has Begun
School is now over for the season and the summer holiday has begun. This year we don’t have to suffer through summer school, so sleeping late every morning has been awesome and a very welcome treat for both me and my son. What I do not welcome is the constant badgering I have been getting every day about going outside to play, even if he’s already been out. No parent wants to hear that. I know my mom didn’t. But when we do go out, we try to have a good time and spend some family-time together.
Yesterday, we drove over to the school to fart around on the playground a little after dinner. Hubby and the boy played basketball with a soccer ball (’cause the basketball is flat).

I, of course, took photos of them playing which was a little hard (for me… I’m a noob) because the little one wouldn’t stop moving. Nothing but a giant blob of blur every time… Yay for the “Sports & Kids” setting!!
We also walked around the school’s “Butterfly Garden” where the boys caught fireflies.

And I got a pretty nice close-up shots of a couple of rabbits that were jumping around in the garden and the field beside it.
It was nice. The night was nice. And Father’s Day was the next day (today actually). It all worked out. Hopefully we’ll have some more great family-time moments during the summer break. No summer break is fun if things are dull and ordinary every day. One might go insane! And that is never a good thing

Amazing Photo’s Jenny
And yes, Summer is definitely here! I’m Loving the new look of your blog!
Thanks & I’m still not done with it. Just feelin’ a bit lazy right now, but it’ll get there
Lovebugs… I like them almost as much as they annoy me.
My son only wants to be outside all day too, and he’s only 11 months old, haha! Rainy days are pretty miserable around here…..
Eww I don’t like bugs.lol My kids love to be outside. This summer has been much nicer then last for the heat :O)
Oh ikr?! I kinda hope it stays like this
loving the summertime!
My little guy is always so happy when we go outside, I just know we’re in for a few camping/fishing trips when he gets older!
Being outside is great— I am glad you made the effort! Hope Father’s Day was equally family centric!
awesome! yaay summer!! mine starts next thursday! can’t wait!
also, i totally feel you on blurry photos! sometimes i photograph our school’s sports games and i have to take like 700 pictures to get even 100 good ones! grrr!
What great pics. I’m jealous. We live where there are no fireflies.
I’ve always wanted to catch some.
Looks lovely! Sounds like you have an amazing summer ahead of you
Love the resourcefulness of using the soccer ball! Great pics, enjoy your summer!
My girls LOVE catching fireflies!
Aw sounds like a sweet evening. I’m jealous of your lie-ins, I’ve forgotten what those are
Nice pictures. We call them lightening bugs where I grew up in Philly.
Yup that’s what we call them
I won’t touch them though *ick* Hate bugs.
Great photos! We still have two weeks of school left here. I hate being bugged to go outside too. I know it’s good for them and important and such but I don’t like being outside a lot, and chasing after my 1 year old son while they play isn’t my idea of fun. If we had a nice yard maybe I’d feel definitely.
So fun! I love lightening bugs. I haven’t seen many since we’ve lived in Dallas but in Chicago they were all over the place. Brings back great memories.
Pictures are great! Noob? I’m a Noob too and I don’t do nearly as well.
Love, love, love that last photo. We, too, are enjoying summer around here. My eldest son is on the go constantly. Sometimes I need to force him to just take a minute to sit on the couch and chill out.
Love love the picture with the hands and the firefly. Very nice shots of great memories!
Lovely photos! Looks like everyone had a great time!
Love the photos. Great job.
So sweet – I love the image of the tiny bugs, what a beautiful way to express the anticipatioin of summer
Such a sweet photo of the hand and the firefly. It portray the fragility of it all so well. I love summer too. Glad yours is off to a wonderful start.
love bugs, love your photos (would never have guessed you’re a newbie!) and it sounds like your summer’s off to a great start!
sounds like a fantastic summer start. I hope he does manage to drag you guys out more often…but I know how you feel…sometimes I’m like…Really…but we were just outside!!
We love to spend our summer evenings in exactly the same way! Blurry kids, a camera, and just some fun playing around.
Thanks for sharing!
Cool pic of the lightning bug!!
Man, summer break was the BEST as a kid. I loooove sleeping in. Sounds like its gonna be a fun one for you guys!
Simple and lovely.
I remember spending hours as a child trying to catch lightning bugs in our yard. Now I watch my kids run and laugh while trying to catch them in our yard. Your post send a wave of nostalgia through me and make me sigh with happiness. Thanks
Looks like your summer is off to a great start, enjoy it.
I’m confused. Why wouldn’t you want him to go outside? I would think it’d be nice to have the house to yourself for awhile while he plays.
We don’t live in a place where he can play outside by himself. My back yard is a giant parking lot.
i have the daily fight of my son who wants to stay in side and my daughter who would live outside if we let her : ) love these simple treasures summer brings!
Great photos for a great post!
Awesome pictures! So great that you guys have been able to get out!
love a summer evening frolic – the air smells so good, the light is beautiful – how nice.
I think you did a great job with the photos!
Great photos of a great night.
